Marina Yannakoudakis MEP

Marina was elected as a Member of the European Parliament in June 2009.  She sits on two committees in the European Parliament: the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality, for which she is the Conservative spokesman in the European Parliament, and the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, where Marina acts as a contact point for the European Centre for Disease Control (ECDC).  So far, in the European Parliament, Marina has led three reports: on child abuse, domestic violence and on matrimonial property rights.  These are three very controversial issues that are not often verbalised and Marina is working hard to ensure unfair treatment towards anyone, regardless of gender, race or religion, remains fair and just.

Marina is a true cross-London MEP.  She was born in North London, before attending school in Beckenham, finishing her education and her university career in Uxbridge.

Prior to becoming a Member of the European Parliament, Marina was a Conservative Councillor in the London Borough of Barnet for the Oakleigh Ward from 2006-2010.  In 2002, Marina was Chariman of the Oakleigh Wards Conservatives.  During the years 2005-2008 Marina was Deputy Chairman of the Chipping Barnet Association.  Whilst at university, during the years 1979-1989, Marina was Chairman of Brunel University Conservative Association.

Before her career in the European Parliament, Marina jointly founded Viamare Travel with her husband where she was financial director of the company.  She holds a BSc in Government, Politics and Modern History, a Diploma in Administrative Management and an MA in Education.

Outside of Politics and business, Marina is married with three children.  She enjoys spending her time with family and friends.
